The Sow's Ear Way

Welcome to A Sow's Ear, a place where all things are subject to the Sow's Ear treatment...and nothing is junk until we say so. Here we take the concept of "One woman's trash is another woman's treasure" to the highest of all possible levels.

We take found, recovered and discovered objects, combine them with some new materials, add a healthy dollop of "the sow's ear way" and stir until we come up something completely new and surprising...and hopefully pleasing.

Visit some of the links at left and explore the site where we will show you a few of the items we have made both for our own amusement and for sale in the past as well as a few items for which we can take custom orders. If you use Firefox you can also just click on the happy sow at the top left of this page and that will activate a photo slide show you can view without really leaving this page. Sorry but for now, you IE users will have to access the photo galleries via the other links on this page.

Bear in mind that many of the materials I use are found, usually broken or discarded by their previous owners who just don't see their potential. So while I can repeat a theme, all the pieces are indeed one-of-a-kind.

Exciting News

I have some exciting news. I've taken a space at the old/new Wefing's Maritime Village here in Apalachicola. Located on Water Street (see map here) next to the original and historic Wefing's Marine Supply building and just across the street from the riverfront, this is the coolest and most unique new retail space in the area. Instead of tearing out the old and putting in new, which is all too often the way things get done, the property owners, John and Sherry, have taken the old machine shops and storage sheds and cleaned them up and given them new life as a group of small retail spaces for artists, antique dealers, and various other folks. Some of the old machinery is still intact in the rafters, the old framework and open rafters are still intact, the tin roofs are far from new and shiny and it all comes together into one really clever and interesting space, absolutely perfect for A Sow's Ear. Check out the photo galleries linked below for some pictures of the facility and me working on my space. And please, come and visit A Sow's Ear and the rest of the small shops and stalls here when you are in the area.
